MD – Limits

Hey y’all,

Hope the feet are up & the belly’s full. Just a quick one this time, to spread the word about my new EP via my brothers over at Tape Death, called Limits.

On Monday just gone, I decided to impose some limits on myself for the day’s beatmaking (every now & then, I’ll do the whole ‘limits’ ting, just to challenge myself, & come up with some new techniques that I may not have otherwise).

The limits were that I could only use one sample per song – no extra drums or bass; that I could only use 8 tracks in my DAW max per song (bounce-downs allowed); & that I couldn’t spend any more than 45 minutes on a track, from conception to final mix/master.

Out of the 20-odd efforts, I ended up with 15 that I thought were listenable, so I thought I’d make them my next TD offering. It’s available over at the Tape Death Bandcamp page, & I hope you dig at least some of it.

What I got up to over summer…

Hey y’all,

Hope the 5-0 has no reason to know your business, & you’ve got somewhere to stay that’s out of the cold.

Firstly, my apologies for not updating this site – TBH, I didn’t think that anybody really cared about this site beyond the ‘Beats for Sale’ ish. However, I’ve had a few peeps of late tell me that I should step my blog game up, so I’m back on my type for a second.

Since my last post, I kicked my work rate up a notch. I produced a couple beats on my homie Seven‘s latest EP ‘Floated’, as well as mixing & mastering it. I did some post-production work & mastered the Mr Hill & Rahjconkas LP ‘The Feedback’, & Vegas Aces‘ latest EP ‘The Departure’. I produced a couple beats, played some instruments & dropped a guest verse on my homie Drakezilla‘s LP ‘Redhead Redemption’, & dropped a radio single with the god Syntax. Most recently, I produced the first single for my ADL bro K21, ‘Won’t Stop‘.

Apart from that work with other cats (& plenty more which I can’t mention yet), I dropped a solo instrumental EP (‘Electric Sky’) & crew LP (‘DFTC x Tape Death’, a remix LP of Down For The Count Records‘ self-titled LP) with my brethren Tape Death, as well as a solo rap EP called ’88 1/2′.

I’ve also been re-stocking my ‘Beats for Sale’ cupboard up, with 20 new joints hitting the shelves a couple of days ago.

Anyway, that’s what’s up for the last 5 months. I’ll be sure to keep this ting updated much more regularly now, so keep checking for new ish.

Reason – Window of Time…

Hey all, hope the debt collectors have no need to know your name. It’s been a minute since I last posted up here; partly because I didn’t want to dribble a bunch of shit without any tunes to back it up, & mainly because I haven’t been able to show you any of the tings I’ve been doing. Now I can…

Recently, my big homie Reason dropped the final chapter in his illustrious 20+ year career, an LP called Window of Time. I was honoured to get to spit a verse on there, as well as produce 3 tracks, record &/or mix 2 others, & master the whole ting.

Considering that Reason is one of the main reasons (excuse the pun) that I even have an opportunity to make a living off hip-hop in Australia, I have to give the man a million thanks, not only for the opportunity to work with him on this piece of hip-hop history, but for opening the door to heads like myself to continue the legacy. Big ups, Rea.

The Economy Evolves…

Hey peoples, hope you’re staying on top of things. Just a quick one today, as I’m up to my neck in work that piled up while I was in QLD with my homie Dunn D. We were lucky enough to play at Sprung festival, & spent a hammered week catching up with old & new friends.

Speaking of work piling up, I’ve been lucky enough to be getting more & more enquiries from people of late for musical work, & it means that I’m one step closer to being able to make a decent living of this grind. As a result of the increased workload & the need to upgrade the studio as a result, I’ve decided to up my fee from $100 to $150, starting immediately (anyone who has contacted me before today will still get that work for $100). It’s still mad affordable, & you will get a broadcast-quality product EVERY time (a lot of cats around can chop a loop off a record, but have no idea how to track, sequence, mix or master properly), no matter what style you’re rocking, so make sure you hit me up for your next project.

MD/Bark One – Remix time…

Hey peeps, hope you’re on the profitable end of the transactions of late. I’ve been MIA recently, holed up working on a bunch of new music & tings (announcements to be made soon).

While I’ve been so busy in the lab, I thought I’d chuck up a lil’ sumn sumn for you to enjoy until the next MD ish hits your ears.

Once again, the track is ‘Could It Be’ of my most recent instrumental album Des Chansons Sur Les Filles. However, this time, the vocalist is a new MC out of Sydney town called Bark One. Dude has game, so hit him up for a verse before you can’t afford it any more, haha…

New exclusive verse – for no reason at all…

Hey fam, hope you’re the rooster & not the feather duster today.

The other day I found an old verse from 2009, & I thought it was pretty good, so I recorded it over an old Dilla beat, & decided to whack it up here for y’all to listen to.

It’s called The Look Of Love (Gone Wrong), & it’s all about sadface love stuff. If you’re not into hearing tracks about that sort of thing, don’t waste your time listening to it & then having a cry about how it’s not to your taste, because that just makes you look like a whiny bitch that can’t handle the idea that other people’s tastes differ from yours.

If you are into hearing tracks about that sort of thing, then I recommend you listen repeatedly, so as to not only satisfy your tastes, but also increase my net statistics for when I do business dealings with people who claim to be musical, yet only understand music when it’s contextualised in completely non-musical terms.

New Single w/ The Tongue…

Hey people, hope the sun & wind are at your back for the journey.

Regular visitors to the blog would have seen that the homie G Force recently dropped a verse on one of the tracks (‘Could It Be’) off my latest instrumental drop.

Well, another good friend, The Tongue also lent his considerable vocal talents to one of the DCSLF tracks. The end result was so good that we had to make it the single off his upcoming mixtape, called ‘The Sextape’, which drops on Sept 12th (link TBA).

The tracks called ‘Two Girlfriends’, and it’s about…well, the title says it all, but not quite in the way you’d think.

MD/G Force – Remix time…

Hey folks, hope you’re staying on top, wherever you are.

As prevoius visitors to this blog would have seen, I’ve recently dropped an album with my homies at Tape Death, called Des Chansons Sur Les Filles.

My homie G Force from Down For The Count Records took one of the tracks & dropped a dope verse on it. Check it out…

New Album – Des Chansons Sur Les Filles…

Hey everyone, hope your books are balancing in your favour.

I’ve been working on a whole bunch of stuff over the past few months, and am relieved and proud to drop my latest project, an instrumental release through Tape Death called Des Chansons Sur Les Filles.

It’s a 12-track collection of songs about ladies & love – definitely one for people looking to get their grown folk on…
